My Students

I love the diversity that I have in my classroom. I have students from all over the world. The students from sixth, seventh, and eighth grade work on reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The students are excited to be there and are willing to work hard even when something is difficult for them.

Many of the students at my school receive free and reduced-price lunches. We have students that live in poverty, some in extreme poverty. Many families struggle to cover basic needs.

My Project

Having a good book to read promotes a love of learning. As the students of our school learn English. Many of our students can read in their first language, but our school library has a limited number of books in other languages. We also don't have any books in Swahili.

Reading a book in your native language helps to promote literacy and a love of reading.

I have students ask me often when our school is going to get books in their language. We want students to keep their first language as their knowledge of English grows. Thank you for considering my project!
