My students are from a rural town in South Carolina. Many of my students come from low income based homes. My students are a diverse group with lots of character. They love coming to school because it is a welcoming and safe environment. The school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch for all students.
My fifth graders need a classroom that has everything they need to be successful.
My students want to come to school, they want to learn, they are an energetic bunch!
My Project
My students have come to school this year without scissors and pencils. The most basic supplies. Having 60 students share scissors donated to my classroom two years ago isn't working anymore. My supplies are dwindling and breaking. We do a lot of cutting and sharing scissors slows everything down.
Most of my students come to class without a pencil.
I purchased boxes of pencils before the school year started, 12 weeks in my pencils have run out. I never want a student to feel they can not ask for a pencil, the most basic supply for school.
If I am able to provide tools like pencils and scissors for my students they can have a great start to their day, they can feel prepared.
