My students are between the ages of two and three and have many different disabilities and needs such as autism, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and emotional and physical challenges.
I also have a few students that are typically developing that serve as peer models for language and socialization.
My students come from culturally diverse families and many have socio-economic challenges, as well. My school is a Title I school and we have a large population of children with special needs and English Language Learners.
My Project
My students have a variety of needs. They need some new toys and supplies to help meet their sensory needs. Students who frequently mouth toys and eat non-food objects will benefit from new types of chewy-tubes to meet their oral-motor needs.
The fidget toys will keep little hands busy during instructional times such as circle time and story time.
It’s important to have a variety of fidgets available, so that all students are able to have their needs met while sitting and participating in daily activities. The yoga books will be used during music and movement, and will be available in the classroom library throughout the school day. We are in need of some books about children with special needs to help teach acceptance of all children.
