All students are special! From TK through middle school students of all backgrounds and abilities have something special about them. My job is to teach students to understand why. Books open up a whole world of experiences and examples to help students to be more informed.
Having unique abilities is something that takes time to understand.
If we teach these lessons when children are young, based on books they can relate to, then growing up with friends of all abilities will not be something new or strange. Having the right materials on hand to support a diverse population of students is being prepared.
As an inclusion specialist, it is important to frontload students and teachers and give them the tools needed to be kind, companionate and empathetic. These are qualities that are important and are often set aside, as "not a priority" because there is so much work to be done. These books will help with developing lessons that are fun, relatable and easy to understand.
