The thrill of discovery dominates my classroom. My students are 3 and 4 years old, and this is their first time in school. Everything is new and exciting. Even simple tasks like washing hands is a chance to learn something new.
These children primarily come from low income homes with non-traditional families.
Many of their parents are under-educated. They have not had a lot of learning opportunities. I get the privilege of helping them take their first steps in school.
My Project
The writing center is avoided by all students. It is everyone's last choice. Despite my best efforts to make it fun and interesting, no one likes it. So I need some engaging materials to entice students to spend some time in writing center.
Fine motor skills and letter recognition are important skills for a preschooler.
The goal is to get students to practice those skills daily. The Write and Wipe Boards and markers are classic writing center materials that I am in need of replacing. Draw and Touch Boards and Magnetic boards are great materials whose skills are not ready for Write and Wipe Boards. And the Build the Letter Activity Center will help to engage students that aren't interested in writing at all. With high interest materials, I can engage students to spend more time in the writing center.
