I need a qball microphone to use as a talking piece to help teachers practice trust circles as we develop a schoolwide focus on mindfulness and school culture.
In a neighborhood where violence is an everyday part of life, school becomes so much more than just a place to learn. The students in my classroom recognize the value of an education as a means to a positive future and, hopefully, someday a safer community, as well.
Our students are English Language Learners in an urban neighborhood.
School is their safe haven and a place where they can focus on a positive future. They are eager to learn and take pride in the investment of others in their education.
My Project
Our school has experienced a lot of trauma the last several years. In an attempt to help both students and teachers cope we’ve begun implementing circles. Teachers have been undergoing PD to implement circles and classroom meetings as well as restructuring how we participate in our team/staff meetings. A big part of these meetings is the respect of giving each person a voice. This microphone will help that to happen in multiple settings. We all need the opportunity to share, be heard, and be respected. The continued use of these structured circles and classroom meetings will hopefully make that possible.
