Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There are many modalities of language that are hard to access due to financial barriers within school districts. My students are learning how to communicate using picture-icon symbols, speech-generating devices, and AAC buttons. AAC buttons (step-by-step) are vital within classrooms in order to maximize student participation during group activities. For example, my students used a step-by-step to participate in our school's trick-or-treating activity! My students were able to press the AAC button to say, "Trick-or-treat", "Thank you!", "bye bye!", but without this AAC button, my non-speaking students would not have been able to participate in such a specific activity as many AAC systems do not include specific vocabulary terms like "trick-or-treat". My students deserve to participate in all academic activities regardless of their communication abilities. Please help my students find their voice and create a more accessible education within public schools.
