Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Eighty-five percent of students in my K-8 school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. I teach in an Inclusion Kindergarten classroom, meaning that there is a population of children within the room with documented learning or behavioral disabilities. There are 25 children in my classroom, 18 boys and 7 girls. Many of the children are first generation Americans, and English is not the primary language spoken at home; for many of the children their main exposure to the English language comes in my classroom.
My Project
I wish that I did not have to ask for donations for things as commonly used in kindergarten like paper, pencils, and crayons. Five year olds go through a lot of paper, a lot of pencils, and even more crayons. The funding of this project will restock the classroom supply for the second half of the year. The children will be writing more and more as they get ready for first grade so the need for paper and pencils is always greater in the latter half of the year. This project will get us through to the end of the year.
