My students need classroom supplies. Rulers, calculators and a pencil sharpener that actually works would help students complete their assignments in math quickly and efficiently without waiting on required tools.

My Students
We live on a rural reservation in Northeast Montana. The opportunity for hands-on learning is key as most resources are extremely far away. Most students live and work on a farm so they are used to learning by doing. I would like to provide that opportunity in the classroom.
Providing ways the curriculum and standards make real world sense to students is an important way of keeping them excited about learning.
Hands-on Science activities is one way to make the information in the text books real.
My Project
Students need to use tools to solve math problems. Rulers and calculators are required tools for our Saxon Math series. While students complete most of the work using pen and paper, there are problems I ask students to check with a calculator. Students are then asked to correct their mistakes in pen after finding where they went wrong in calculations.
Students not only learn to use a calculator, but learn to find their own mistakes and make corrections.
Pencils are constantly needing sharpening; we do a lot of math work! A good pencil sharpener that actually works would be a benefit to students so they are able to continue working without constant interruptions.
