Everybody Read Now
My students need three levels of non-fiction books, five levels of fiction reading sets, and other non-fiction titles related to our units.
Do you remember what it was like to find a series of books you loved as a child? I would love my students to get that same feeling. My students right now have a very limited supply of books to choose from. Most of the books in my classroom library are outdated, and not applicable to their lives.
My students this year are the most ambitious, driven and intellectually curious class I have ever taught.
Their lives outside of school are sometimes chaotic at best and downright dismal at worst. Yet, they have managed to create a calm, peaceful environment within my classroom walls. I would love to add to that classroom environment by creating a warm, cozy classroom library that my kids can go to for a moment of respite during the busy school day.
My students are so driven to learn new things and often I don't have the materials I need to teach them most effectively. I remember as a kid how books were some of my biggest delights. And while most of my students in class love to read, few of them have found a book series that really speaks to their lives. I am hoping this Donor's Choose Project will remedy that.
As an avid reader, I know how much pleasure reading has given me in my own life.
Reading is also the backbone of every single aspect in education. Yet, some of my kids have not discovered the joy in reading yet. Often times if a student is not avidly reading by the time he/she leaves elementary school, he will never catch up to his more literate peers. Please help me fund this classroom library to reach my kids before they go on to middle school.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
