Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! All of them are bilingual or are learning to be. Some of them have three languages. These kiddos are the future adults I want to be caring for the world. My students come from all over to attend our dual language Spanish/English school and their families are diverse in culture.
My students are curious about the world around them and so eager to learn.
They are a dynamic, interesting, and interested group of young people who love to learn about life.
My Project
As I looked at my new class list this year I noticed that I have quite a large number of younger siblings of former students. Many of my kids come from large families, and hand-me-downs really only have a finite amount of use left in them.
A lot of my students live in poverty, I’ve heard kids discussing their family’s choice to buy socks or groceries.
No one should have to choose between feeding and clothing their kids. I’d like to get some shoes and socks to bulk up the selection in my school’s clothes closet, so that students without good running shoes or non-holy socks will have a chance to get what they need for warm and comfy feet.
