Our students come from all walks of life and have different challenging situations. They come to school daily and share their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Our school is a Title I, low-income school where all of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch every day.
Many of our students who walk the halls struggle with emotional and behavioral problems.
Our students would like the opportunity to celebrate the male figures in their life. It was Muhammad Ali that said, " Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth."
We would like the opportunity to celebrate the male figures behind our students. Whether it be a father, stepfather, uncle, grandfather, brother, mentor, teacher, etc. As a woman and mother, lots of times we celebrate the moms and forget to celebrate the man behind the child. Quite a few of our students don't have a male figure at home so we'll also be reaching out to men in the community to come and stand in place for these children.
We want to have a lunch for the students and their representative and also plan on doing different activities throughout the day.
One of those activities is going to be a dance class where they get to express themselves through rhythm and motion. I feel as though letting families know that they're invited into our school for more than the typical reasons would help our students grow socially and emotionally and parents become more engaged.
