Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a rural, low-income community, with limited opportunities. My students have numerous skills that will help them succeed, but require opportunities to develop and strengthen their natural talents.
My students are bright, active, motivated, students.
They actively work to succeed in and out of the classroom. They get excited by learning new things and have new experiences. They all have the ability to be successful and excel at anything they put their minds to. My students constantly strive to grow and learn. Each day, my students make an effort to improve themselves and their community.
My Project
My students need multicultural paint to create self-portraits that accurately represent themselves. As they create their artwork they will listen to a wide range of traditional music from different cultures. Students will select music that represents the traditions and culture of their own family to share when they present.
Students will use music and art to tell stories about themselves, their culture, and learn more about their classmates.
It is important that students have the tools they need to fully express themselves. Many paint sets provide limited options when it comes to skin tone choices. It can be challenging for students to feel engaged and creative when they feel that the tools they are using to represent them.
