Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am back in a classroom setting having been in a reading support room the last seven years! I have 20 students and I work at a Title One school in Placer County. Most students live in an apartment complex near the campus and walk to school. Many walk to local stores and don't have experience leaving our county. We go on local, walking field trips that are free when we can. Most students don't fund raise and many can't pay for the two bussed field trips.
My students are great!
They work really hard, they are compliant and their assessment scores really impressed me. My students are mostly English Learners, and they always answer questions using full sentences. They follow directions and they always are optimists! This group of kids are passionate and welcome visitors with warm hearts!
My Project
My students share tables that have very small desk spaces. There isn't any room to store their white boards or library books. If each student had a sack on their chair, they could easily store their own white board, marker, and have easy access to their library books. Currently each time we need a white board, I have to go to a stack, grab a marker and have students pass them out amongst their groups. It seems to me we could save valuable learning time if the marker and boards stayed with each student. Library books are kept in a bin and not easily assessible for a quick quiet read. I'd like to have quicker access to practice spelling on white boards and have my students able to store their library books at their desks.
