Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day I have the privilege of coming to work with 24 of the kindest, most hard working 3rd graders I've ever known. Our class is comprised of ENL students, SWD, and students with levels that range from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
But one thing that unites them all is their passion for learning and thirst for knowledge.
Unfortunately, many of them are in a constant battle with the world outside of our classroom. As a title 1 school in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, many of my students are facing poverty, broken homes, and a lack of resources.
My Project
My students are fortunate to have myOn accounts provided to them by the school. myOn is a website that "provides unlimited access to a broad collection of authentic digital texts that are available for online reading." (www.myon.com) However, in our classroom, we only have two desktop computers for 24 students to share.
These three chromebooks that I am asking for would give the opportunity for more of my students to access their individual online libraries on a more frequent basis.
There is a strong relationship between reading volume and student achievement. By having these three chromebooks in my room, not only will my students' reading levels increase, but so will their love for reading!
