My students need stability balls, wobble cushions, and a wobble stool so they can have flexible seating options that allow them to strengthen their core muscles and engage their minds!
I am privileged to teach twenty-one amazing fourth graders! Our school has an extremely strong and supportive, yet very diverse community. I believe it is my duty to give all of my students as many educational experiences and opportunities as possible in order to enable them to do their best growing and learning.
My fourth graders are inquisitive, imaginative, and innovative children that have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge!
These students come to school each day with smiles on their faces and stories to share. I work to foster an environment that encourages positive social interactions, and I also strive to engage my students in meaningful activities that evoke critical and creative thinking.
It is my esteemed honor to teach these innovative and passionate learners every day! I want to prepare them for life outside of the classroom in the twenty-first century by incorporating as much access to technology as possible in our classroom routine and through the use of developing personal strategies that they can use throughout their life.
My Project
My students are in need of flexible seating options so that they can engage their minds to do their best learning. Research shows that items like stability balls, the wobble stool, and wobble cushions promote healthy bodies and active minds. I have seen firsthand that my students sustain more rigorous focus for longer periods of time when they can work while standing, moving, or positioning their body in other non-traditional ways. I believe it is within my power to give my students a seating choice that best meets their educational needs, and the items in this project would support these goals!
Malcolm X once said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." I want to allow my students to develop strategies to help prepare them for their future!
In giving my students the responsibility of choosing their seat during class, I am helping them to critically think about their needs and am empowering them to be their own advocate for these needs in the future.
