Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, energetic and look for opportunities to apply their new found mathematical knowledge in the real world. They help bring to life a sometimes difficult subject and strive to help each other succeed.
We are a small school in the inner city of Bridgeport, Connecticut with limited resources, but we are a community that supports a strong commitment of service to others above self, both inside and outside of the school.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and some don't have opportunities outside of school to have experiences or materials that will enhance and enrich their education. I want to give them that opportunity they deserve.
My Project
These magazines will help students make connections to other subjects and application in the real world. It will also help with literacy across the content areas. Students will use the articles to analyze and support the curriculum being taught, discuss the material and analyze the application in the real world, thus making connections.
Mathematics is more than just crunching numbers.
It is about discourse, understanding, practice and knowledge. These magazines will help students gain all these skills and engage them at the same time. The skills that they gain can be transferred and used not only in other subject areas, but other parts of their life. We are often eager to find tools that can help bridge the gap for students in one subject area. These magazines can do that and so much more.
