I work with a diverse group of 7/8 year old children. Many of my students come from single parent homes. They love to think on their own and explore new people and places. Our school is at 80% free/reduced lunch, with this being said, many of my students have huge obstacles to overcome to be successful. My reading class allows my students to explore new places, new ideas and new ways of thinking. My students are creative and have great energy for learning.

We have found that while the children love to read, we need to dig deeper in their learning by allowing them to express their thoughts and opinions about different stories that generations of people have experienced. My students do not have art class and if we can encourage a love for art through literature and exploring books what a peaceful and happy world, we could show the children
