Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Bowling Green PHI is a unique school for students with the most severe physical and cognitive disabilities, including traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, cerebral palsy, vision impairments, and muscular dystrophy.
Every day is a challenge coming to school for my students.
Many have normal or even superior cognitive capabilities, yet require significant supports to reach their potentials. Many of my students struggle with basic communication, walking, and even holding simple tools needed to learn.
Sacramento is one of the most diverse communities in the United States; culturally and economically. Bowling Green PHI represents this diversity.
My Project
The mobile devices will provide my students access to important language at critical learning developmental stages of early childhood. Language development in early childhood are the scaffolds for later learning. When a child cannot see text clearly, they are denied access to learning. Auditory reading allows students to participate and grow in classroom activities within normal child development timelines
Auditory reading provides appropriate supports for students with visual reading challenges.
Some of my students with the most severe visual impairments will use mp3 players to only listen to and comprehend reading materials. Other students with less visual limitations will benefit from using tablets that can provide both auditory and visual content.
