With the arts being cut in schools, it becomes the classroom teachers responsibility to provide students with artistic opportunities. I'd love to be able to provide for my students more than just pencil and paper.
My second grade students are always coloring and drawing.
They enjoy learning and trying new things. My school is a high poverty, Title 1 school. Music and Art are taught by the same teacher and though she does a wonderful job, her time is stretched thin.
We all know that all students learn differently. I'd love to integrate more art projects into my lessons.
My Project
I'm requesting scissors, white board markers, paint, paint bushes and painting paper. My students do not all have their own scissors. To save on paper my students do lots of math and science on their whiteboards. They also enjoy drawing on the boards. I also love integrating art projects into my lessons. For some students this is the best way they learn. I also want to expose my students to different ways of expressing themselves.
It is very important to me that I expose as many experiences to my students as possible.
Brain research shows that the arts help students in other academic areas such as reading, writing and math. For some students, the arts is where they excel and it is their favorite part of school. I would love to be able to do more projects in my classroom.
