Our class is full of diverse cultures and backgrounds with each child bringing their own unique experiences to help create a positive classroom community.
My students come from multicultural backgrounds, with many coming from disadvantaged and underserved families.
Many come to school each day needing breakfast from the cafeteria. Exposed to a life with limited opportunities, these children work constantly to better themselves for the future.
These 3rd graders are typical kids, eager to learn, and excited for experiences. They are thirsty for knowledge and hungry for opportunity. We work hard to try and show them a positive route and to prepare these students to be creative and critical thinkers. My students apply themselves diligently to reach the same bar and pass the same tests as all children.
Our school community works tirelessly to support these families not only in school, but also by providing families with food and supplies to their homes. We all take these children under our wings which is rewarding yet challenging at times.
One of my goals as an educator is not only to teach my students the core curriculum, but also to instill in them a sense of belonging and ownership in the classroom. These supplies will help each child "own" their little corner of the world.
With the individual carpet squares, students will feel confident knowing there is always room for them in our group, and that they have a space that belongs to them and them alone.
The Student Storage Bins will be used to house student supplies, so they each know where their tools are, without the unwanted clutter of the inside of a desk. It will also allow them the freedom to move around the room when working in groups, or when they simply desire to use alternative seating.
