My students currently attend a year-round school in MN. I have 23 vibrant kindergarten students that truly love to come to school. My class has a very diverse set of needs with 1/2 of the students speaking English as a second language and 1/3 of my students receive special education service. Each day is a new adventure in the world of learning. My students come to school to be fed, feel loved and find their place in this world on top of learning how to be a citizen in today’s world. They enjoy the safety of the community we have built.
My Project
My students are in need of art and music supplies to stimulate the right side of the brain which is imperative to the development of critical thinking skills.
My students need more ways to expressive themselves in the classroom.
I am asking for markers, stamps, crayons, and other craft supplies to help each student explore their creative side freely. Each day my class gets 20 minutes of choice time. During this time each student gets to choose a center to work at. During this time students can use the skills I have taught to have a self guided learning time. The majority of the students use this time to learn through play. By having markers, crayons, stamps, etc. will let the kids express themselves, but also allows for social skills and fine motor skills to happen with in a small group of students. The art center during choice time is in high demand and the students live feeling accomplished and proud.
I am also asking for music supplies for large group and for small group activities. Sadly, our school no longer has a music program. I will be using rhythm sticks in the class to expose my students to the basics of music of finding and keeping a beat. The class will be exposed to different kinds of music and being able to create similar music of their own! I would also like to have drums, egg shakers, and chimes for students to create their own music during free choice time! Students can choose to go to the music center I create with the items I have requested.
