We need a new volleyball cart and several new practice volleyballs.
Lea is a senior at our school. She has been a starter on our volleyball team for the last four years. During that time, our program has seen success, winning the Conference Championship Title in 2012 and 2014. This success has worked to grow our program, which is now in need of new equipment.
While our program has achieved success in recent years, our equipment is dated and could use an upgrade. Our ball cart drops balls out of the bottom and many of our volleyballs must be aired up on a regular basis. Seeing a need, Lea approached me about using DonorsChoose to help the volleyball team. I told her I would be happy to help her create a project and she promptly got to work. Although she will not see the benefits of this project, Lea was enthusiastic about the opportunity to help better the program that has enriched her high school experience. This energy and sense of loyalty to the team is what we hope each of our student-athletes learn through their involvement in our program. The donated materials would help us insure that legacy.
Working on this project allows students the chance to collaborate with others and take the initiative for making change happen. The donated materials will not only benefit them but also our entire community as volleyball games are often a community event. Allowing students the opportunity to reach out into the community and improve it instills a sense of hometown pride and stewardship. Through involvement in sports, students learn from one another and the real life experiences they have both on and off the field. They also learn about the importance of time management as they learn to juggle their academic workload with the rigorous practice and game schedule.
We would like to replace some of our volleyballs and the ball cart so that we don't have to worry about further breaking the old equipment. All the balls we have are old and flat. Our cart is falling apart. We are graduating four seniors this year and we would like to encourage more girls to play in the years to come. Updating the equipment would help motivate underclassmen to come play.
Volleyball is my favorite sport. As a senior, it sad that we have to leave behind the old equipment for the underclassmen to use. Being a small school, fielding a team is sometimes a challenge. I think new equipment would encourage upcoming freshman to play. I plan to inform the school through posting on social media, creating posters/flyers, and writing an article in the school newsletter or local newspaper.
We are a very small school and we don't have a lot of extra money to spend. All four years of my high school career we have played with old, flat volleyballs that we store in a broken cart. It has big rips in the bottom, the balls fall out, and the wheels fall off. The frame is broken. Investing in new equipment will encourage underclassmen to play and restore a sense of pride in our program. By furthering our program, we are extending our impact in the community.
