Evening the Playing Field Making Books Accessible to All Students

My Students

I am a reading specialist serving fifth and sixth-grade students. My students come from many different backgrounds but share one thing in common; they all struggle with reading. I specialize in working with dyslexic students and many of my students are still learning English. I see on a daily basis how hard they work

My students are amazing and work harder then you can imagine to improve their reading skills.

Even though they struggle they love a good story. I want to provide them with kindle paper-white e-readers.

My Project

The Kindle paper-whites will ease the burden some students feel when trying to read. They have back lighting that makes it easier on the eyes and therefore will increase reading stamina. The settings can be adjusted to increase the white space and there are many different fonts to choose from. There is also a font specifically for dyslexic students that will ease the struggle of word identification. When encountering unfamiliar words the students can click on the word and the definition will pop up.

The materials requested will help improve the reading experiences of my struggling readers and allow them to access the same grade books their classmates are reading.

They work so hard I want to even the playing field by providing kindles to make reading more enjoyable.
