My Students
My students attend a neighborhood school in the city of Chicago. Our school and the surrounding neighborhood are one of the most diverse in the country and we serve a variety of students in low income situations.
I have been at this school for fifteen years and from my time I began student teaching, I fell in love with the energy, determination and community involvement of the students from the neighborhood.
We now accept students from all over the city for our CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs that prepare students for Computer Coding, Childcare, Medical Technician and Culinary Careers.
My Project
I have been using Google Classroom in my room for two years in an attempt to go completely paperless and prepare my students for future educational environments.
If I could get five more Chromebooks, then I could guarantee daily access for my students to work as groups.
Students would use the books for presentations and daily work. At present, our school only has one Chrome cart for use in the social studies department. I have to share the cart with six other teachers. Daily access would help the students develop the executive function skills (checking email, using the scheduler and calendar for tracking deadlines.)
I have also been using Google Classroom to help with peer editing.
