My students are ninth and tenth graders from an amazing array of backgrounds and interests. Our school is proud to embody the International Baccalaureate program where we serve students who come from many countries, speak several languages, and learn in diverse ways. Through inquiry based programs, we equipping our students to be global citizens.
My students thirst for challenges, while at the same time many struggle with the literacy skills they need to achieve their goals.
The students strive to meet the high cultural and academic expectation that the school sets and demonstrate a resilience that empowers other students and teachers alike.
My Project
My students need paper supplies and coloring utensils to express themselves in creative ways. When students have the opportunity, they love to use visuals to enhance their learning. In the beginning of our units of study we create visual representations of our Statement of Inquiry, which connects concepts and context. Throughout our units we implement various artistic ways to master skills and knowledge. This includes creating color-coded lists, detailed illustrations, and notes that students can easily reference in the classroom.
Students create posters and diagrams, tracking their thoughts and learning processes through color, which ignites higher levels of retention.
It is especially important for my English Language Learners and struggling readers to have the opportunity to use resources like these to aid in filling their learning gaps.
