My students are from a low-income rural setting where many of them are the first in their family to go to college. Whether it's a university, community college, or trade/technical school, my students want to continue learning in a society that demands it.
Even though many of them are going into uncharted territory with their college experiences, my students are intelligent, fearless, determined, and want to make changes in the world.
They are not only great students but kind, caring, and great people.
I'm requesting these materials as a way to assist outgoing seniors with their college experiences and build a college-going culture by presenting them during a large school ceremony with younger grade levels present.
Many of our students are first-generation and lower-income and have described purchasing books at college as both mentally and physically stressful.
Going into crowded bookstores to spend their life savings on a few textbooks is a difficult task for a lower-income student. These tablets will allow our students to rent/purchase digital textbooks for less money and break down the barrier that the cost of books and physical acquisition of books presents.
Winners will be randomly selected from a pool of eligible students. To be eligible, students will need to have been accepted to a college/university. Once the winners are chosen, the tablets will given away at a school-wide ceremony.
