My Students
My students are exhausted and overworked by constant testing. I believe in creating a safe environment for them to express themselves without fear of failure. A place for them to grow not only as students, but as people.
Most of my students come to school distracted by one or more of the following (poverty, minority status, parenting, learning/ emotional disabilities, hunger, jobs, etc). Behind these labels, they are amazing in their own ways. With the right tools and guidance, they can reach their full potential.
My Project
Students will be creating portraits of a person they admire though the art of printmaking. Students will be creating an "etching" plate with a more cost effective material (mat board) then traditional metal plates. Students will cut layers of the mat board to create the different values within the portrait. They will then ink their plates and run them through a printing press to create their print. Students will then enhance their portraits by layering watercolors on top of their prints.
Making and printing etching plates will be a new experience for my students. With these materials, my students will be able to create one of a kind prints that they will be proud of.
