Our 4th graders love learning new things, and we strive to find the greatness in each one of them. Our school is a Great Expectations PK through 5th grade elementary school of 540 students. Over 76% of students qualify for free and reduced lunches with the rest of the students coming from middle income families, and many are from single parent and foster families.
Every student that comes through my door should have the resource materials and supplies needed to help them succeed.
I share many resources with other classes, and these resource materials will be available for other 4th grade students for several years to come.
My Project
If this project is fully funded, all my students will have access to dictionaries. They will be doing word work, in which they will find alternate definitions, parts of speech, pronunciations, word forms, word origins, etc. of vocabulary words each week. They will also be using these dictionaries in their writing projects, checking for spelling, word usage, grammar, etc. These dictionaries will be an important staple in my classroom for several years, in addition to other classrooms as needed.
These American Heritage Children's Dictionaries will be an amazing asset to my classroom, and many students will benefit from their use!
They will be reusable for several years, and an essential staple that will be used almost daily in my classroom. Occasionally, online dictionaries will also be used but I'm a firm believer that students must have the experience of hard copy dictionaries to prepare them for the future.
