Where do I begin? The students I have the pleasure and honor of teaching are smart, kind, energetic, motivated, and loving. They have the drive to reach their highest learning potential. These hardworking children range from ages 5 to 7 years old and are such deeply curious learners. They live in a very low-socioeconomic community in Harlem, New York and receive free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch, and after-school snacks.
My students all have unique learning needs as they all have diagnosed disabilities, or as I like to call it "developmental variations." Many of them have parents that are doing their very best to survive but need support to ensure their children are not being neglected at home.
My students have many burdens they are exposed to and it is essential that they feel safe, loved, included, and inspired at school, and that is why I need your help!
My Project
Since my students vary in age, grade, developmental, and academic levels, they require varying materials to support their learning, even if the learning objective is the same for all of them. Therefore I need to make many different versions of the same activity, chart, instructional tools, etc. to meet each of their unique needs and disabilities. This requires me to print and protect many documents.
Since my class is a unique class size and caters to the needs of varying disabilities, these supplies will support each student in an individualized way.
From homework, to subject specific lessons, each child requires a different type of learning material to ensure I am meeting their mandated needs based on their Individualized Education Plan. Having the ink and paper, to create these materials for them will ensure that the items will stay in good condition but also allow me to provide my students with exactly what they need right away in our classroom. Other elements of this project such as erasers, notecards, and binder clips allow my students to stay organized and work hard.
