Help me give my students a great start to first grade with a classroom full of basic supplies such as pencil boxes, folders, dictionaries, scissors, tape, bags, dry erase markers, pens, sticky notes, toner, trays, and command hooks.
My students enter first grade with much excitement and enthusiasm. Over 75% of them are English language learners from low-income families, and 100% of students receive free and reduced-price lunches. Their parents have the highest expectations for their children to excel in school and encourage them to do well, but many lack the time or skills to personally help them academically. Many students struggle with school because they are also learning to speak English. Others have special needs that make learning more challenging. Because of their backgrounds, many struggle and come to school unprepared.
As their teacher, I must find strategies to motivate them to do their best so they can thrive and succeed.
First grade can be quite challenging as the students must learn concepts from all subject areas including reading, writing, and math. I try my best to ensure each and every one progresses and ultimately masters all first grade concepts while at the same time infusing the curriculum with fun activities!
My Project
My students need basic classroom supplies such as pencil boxes, folders, dictionaries, scissors, tape, paper and plastic bags, dry erase markers/cleaning cloths/cleaning solution, pens, sticky notes, toner, sheet protectors, trays, book binding coils, painter’s tape, and command hooks, so that our classroom will be equipped with basic supplies that they may use throughout the school year.
Having basic supplies in the classroom will allow my students to focus on their learning instead of what they are lacking.
Pencil boxes will help organize student supplies such as pencils, glue, and scissors. Folders will be used for students to hold their homework and classwork. Sheet protectors will be used to keep reference papers (i.e. 100 number chart, ABC alphabet chart, money chart) that students refer to for classwork and homework, clean and organized. Students will be able to add words that they do not know how to spell in their spelling dictionaries. Pens, book binding coils, sticky notes, and label tape will be used for creating books during writing workshop. Plastic and paper bags will be used for art projects as well as carry bags during field trips. Dry erase markers/erasing cloths, cleaning solution will be made available for the teacher and students to work on group projects using the whiteboards. Toner will be used to print out student work throughout the year; painter tape will be used to post student work on the wall.
