This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a fully inclusive urban school where the majority of students are living in poverty. The students in my school are excited to come to school and learn everyday. My goal is to create an environment that is safe and comfortable for student learning.
My students have a variety of disabilities but they still learn alongside their nondisabled peers.
My students are just like any other students except that they have to overcome additional obstacles in order to learn alongside their peers. Therefore they need additional support, materials, and other modifications in order to access the same learning as their peers.
My Project
My students need a lot of modified materials in order to be able to access the general education curriculum and make progress towards their IEP goals. The cardstock and laminate allow me to make these materials in bright and engaging with colors and then laminate them to make them durable and long lasting. The velcro allows me to make materials engaging by making the pieces movable. These materials will then be used year after year with all students that need modified materials. I know with the resources we will create we will be able to create engaging materials that will improve student's outcomes.
