Help me give my students a clean, welcoming, and colorful working environment that promotes learning with supplies that will make a world of difference for my students.
This semester, I will have close to 90 students, with at least 30 brand new faces and many familiar ones entering my room. They vary in age from 14 to 18, depending on what class level they will be taking. This year, I am teaching art and digital media. The students I know from previous years are bright, enthusiastic, and a joy to have in class (even at 7:15 am).
These kids love to learn, collaborate, and make things.
Many of them are involved not only in the arts, but other student-led organizations, academic clubs, or athletics.
My Project
Although art supplies are key to teach art, the room will not function without these other key pieces. There will never be enough tissues, hand sanitizer, or cleaning supplies to go around; I do my best to prevent the spread of germs. In art, we deal with a lot of messy materials; therefore, having something to wipe the desks down with is fundamental, and lotion for overly washed hands is a plus.
I have added reward stickers to this list because, although I teach big kids, big kids still appreciate a good job sticker.
I try to acknowledge students for good behavior and work, and a simple sticker can make someone's day. The other items like pencils and composition books will go to those who, unfortunately, will not have one for whatever reason. I try to keep back-up notebooks for those who will go the entire semester without one and pencils because you can't draw without a writing utensil (and you'd be surprised in the amount that shows up without one).
