The students of our school are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They bring lots of energy and curiosity but lack the supplies and resources!
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn.
In this classroom we will focus of bringing science into the class and applying it to the world around the students!
My students have just completed their first full semester as high schoolers and we are gearing up for Semester 2!
Their success would not be possible without the supplies that are provided from Donors Choose to keep them on track to stay focused and prepared to learn day in and day out.
As ninth graders in Biology (for many of them the first true science course they have ever taken!), learning how to stay organized with binders, teaching study techniques specific to science like utilizing Greek/Latin roots to comprehend articles and texts, and learning basic lab techniques and safety are super important to their success and introduction into the field of science. Students will be able to utilize the binders on a daily basis to organize notes, lab procedures, lab reports, and their weekly Graph of the Week assignments.
Our school site is a technology and trade school, so my students are extremely successful with hands-on learning which is such a bonus in science! We are constantly conducting labs, demos, and even utilize their lab tables as big dry erase boards when learning new vocabulary and science specific Greek/Latin roots to help enhance their reading comprehension skills in science. This is how we utilize our dry erase markers and dry erasers in the classroom to provide a more hands-on approach to scientific vocabulary!
Other resources that will be utilized through this project like pencils, tissues, hand sanitizer, lotion, diffuser, etc. will help students have an inviting and approachable classroom environment as well as provide all the necessary day-to-day materials that they need to be successful that they might not already have access to.
