This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school that offers free breakfast and lunch to all children. Our third-grade scholars live in a high poverty neighborhood. Our community is located in an inner-city area. About 85% of our students identify as African American, 5% Latino, 2% White, 1% Asian, and 9% multi-racial.
Labels and test scores do an injustice to our scholars and teachers.
My scholars and I refuse to accept failure. If you could see our children, you would understand that they are full of potential and that they are future leaders and innovators. Our students are perseverant, motivated, enthusiastic, and driven to succeed. We will bridge the poverty gap, and they will achieve!
My Project
Our scholars will achieve the ambitious goals that they have set for themselves!
In order to do so, they require some basic materials.
I am requesting some Common Core workbooks to ensure that our children get daily practice in the skills they need to succeed and be prepared for the next grade and high stakes state tests. We also need file folders to organize our weekly assessments that we use to set goals for ourselves and track our progress throughout the year. We need sets of playing cards to play math games that support fact fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Scholars will be allowed to take the cards home with them so that they can continue to practice by themselves or with friends or family. The index cards and card holders will used to organize data in an easily accessible way. Finally, the adjustable office chairs will allow students to sit comfortably at our small group table during guided instructional times.
