This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My third-grade students are eager to learn and improve their academic skills. They have varying personal experiences and educational backgrounds, but they are kind and helpful to each other and have been working hard to succeed. They were having an awesome school year so far and were growing so much in their classes. I'm hoping all of my students will be able to keep learning while the school buildings are closed.
Many of my students lack basic school supplies at home.
Our public school is in an urban area in Michigan. Some of our families have been directly affected by Covid-19. They are dealing with many hardships during this unprecedented time. I would like to help them by providing headphones and basic school supplies.
In class, students have access to laptops and they learn within a blended learning model. I am able to work with them individually, and in small groups, to address all of their needs. Even though we are doing our best with remote learning, it is not the same as in-person and I know my students need more support to be successful learning at home.
My Project
My students are facing tough challenges due to the closure of school buildings. Their families are dealing with unemployment, sickness, death, and facilitating the education of their children. My vision is to deliver a bag of school supplies to each students' house, to help them be successful participants in our district's Distance Learning Plan.
They need headphones with a mic in order to interact and focus during our online classes.
Many households are bustling with family members and it is hard for the students to find a quiet space to do their online work. At school, we provide all necessary classroom supplies. At home, most of my students are struggling to find pencils and paper. They need school supplies and novels in order to have meaningful experiences learning at home.
