This year is my first opportunity to teach some of the best students in our district! These students are not to be underestimated! They will go on to do great things and inspire many people. My goal is to teach them as many important life skills as possible! My Student's disabilities range from Autism, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities and Language Impairments. Our high school is 55% free and reduced lunch.
Cooking and cleaning are some of the everyday life skills that my students need to learn.
I am asking you to support me in supplying our room with things that will help them learn these skills. The items needed are small appliances; such as a microwave, toaster, toaster oven, hand mixer and a vacuum cleaner. Also we could use a twin size bed, a set of twin sheets, and a broom and dustpan.
My Project
Access to these small appliances will provide my students with the hands-on experience of using small appliances in everyday life. These appliances will not only give me the opportunity to teach my students how to use them but also teach them the importance of safety while using them. The toaster, toaster oven, and microwave will allow me to teach my students easy meal preparation that they will be able to do on their own. The broom, dustpan, vacuum, twin bed and twin sheets will allow me to provide my students hands-on training with the skills needed for everyday household cleaning and making beds. The iron and ironing board will give me the opportunity to teach my students how to iron and the importance of our clothes looking neat.
These opportunities will greatly impact my life skills classroom by providing much-needed skills that my students can take with them throughout life!
