I am a public school teacher in a 2nd and 3rd special day class setting. My extraordinary students are mainly autistic or have learning disabilities. Students tend to be at least two years behind their peers academically.
Students with disabilities needs more hands-on learning to supplement for their deficit.
Reading or learning the alphabet can be integrated with art and science projects. My students struggle with math daily and I am looking for a great program that helps them with fluency ranging from kindergarten to 3rd grade level. My special learners would be grateful for the opportunities from sensory and hands-on learning materials for my self-contained classroom.
My Project
My students with ADHD would be greatly benefited from fidgets and tools that helps them focus better in class. The sensory items help my autistic students regulate their socio-emotional and therefore, support learning in the classroom. Legos and Marble runs serve as motivation to encourage student learning. On Friday, I run play groups with our general education peers to encourage inclusion and mainstreaming outside of my self-contained classroom. Helping my students feel included and teaching general education students to include special needs children are part of my goal this year and beyond. Our district is currently facing a budget cut year and that includes my special students. Your help is greatly appreciated for years to come!
