Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Forming letters, counting, spelling; these are all essential skills that kindergarteners must learn to get those foundational skills that are so important for success in school.
My students attend a public school where 100 percent of the students receive a free lunch.
The school population is made up primarily of minority students. For many of the students, English is a second language and some of those students mainly hear English only at school.
My Project
Whiteboards are an essential in today's classroom. These boards are awesome in that they have a blank side, a lined side AND are magnetic. During lessons, they will keep all students actively engaged. Having a lined side means they can be used in shared writing and for handwriting lessons. Add magnetic letters and they provide spelling support. The blank side will be used with the button magnets to learn counting, help develop number sense as well as add and subtract. My students will learn all the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic, with your help.
Kindergarten is not the cut and paste grade anymore.
It is now all about learning to read, write and do math. My students are deserving of the chance to have a great start in their school careers. They deserve to leave kindergarten confident in their ability to succeed in both reading and math. This strong start will carry them through high school and beyond.
