Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class are bright, eager learners who come from diverse backgrounds. We started off the school year ready to build on foundational reading skills and take on the responsibilities and challenges of first grade!
First graders see tremendous progress in their reading skills and are also able to tackle math problems that require more critical thinking.
In addition to academic content, I help my students develop essential social-emotional skills through cooperative learning experiences. Our classroom is a community in which kindness and mutual respect are emphasized. We celebrate both our successes and failures and we persevere in the face of challenges! We are tough problem solvers, kind friends, math superstars, strong speakers...and so much more!
My Project
Construction paper, pencil boxes, chart paper and crayons; these are all basic school supplies that are used in our classroom on a daily basis.
Our school was fortunate enough to have the funds to pay for most of these supplies but because of budget cuts, we will no longer have access to some of the most fundamental supplies needed to make learning fun and accessible for all students.
We use construction paper for various kinds of art projects. The chart paper is used regularly to make anchor charts and during shared writing. Students each have a box of crayons to use throughout the year for a variety of projects and activities and they keep their supplies in their individual pencil boxes.
