I have several classes of energetic, curious, and adventurous middle school students. They are always looking for something new and big to do and learn. Many of them come from difficult backgrounds with less than normal living experiences. For many, coming to school is a way of escaping their everyday world. They feel safe in my classroom, they trust me, and they know that I deeply care for them.
My students have a new appreciation toward learning music, and they are always looking for the next big opportunity!
Once we learn a skill or concept, we build on it and add the next challenge. A majority of my students are not exposed to a wide variety of music. Many would start the school year saying “I don’t like music” or “I’m not good at this”. Those same kids leave my room at the end of the year continuing with music by either joining an ensemble for the next school year, take private lessons, or continue playing an instrument at home.
Where there are drummers, there are drum sticks. Now all we need are bags to store the sticks! It seems so simple, but it’s so necessary!
I use Remo Tubanos for my 6th grade Introduction to Music class to teach rhythms and use in percussion ensemble pieces.
These are terrific instruments with great quality sound, and they are tunable. I can also use two of them as a set of congas for my steel bands. We could use as many Remo Tubanos for my classroom as possible. Having these items for our class room and ensembles will help our program immensely! Thank you!
