ESOL Translators

Help me give my students the power of voice! Many of our newest students have no way to communicate in their first months in the United States, but these handheld translators will help them understand their new world!

My Students

My students are 4-5 grade non-English speakers, mostly refugees and immigrants. They are in my newcomer classroom for one year to get acclimated and to streamline their English instruction before entering the mainstream classroom. My goal is for my students to receive grade-level instructions with adaptive English. They are a sweet bunch of students, eager to explore and dedicated to their learning! My students are from all over the world and have varying English proficiency levels. This makes our class extremely and beautifully diverse!

My Project

Teachers and English language learners will be able to communicate, making it possible for students to access their learning! Our newest students will be able to understand the expectations and assignments in their new classroom and new language. These handheld translation tools are perfect for teachers and new ELLs to connect in the classroom! For example, teachers can translate directions and lessons, Students could experience secondary trauma when they are put in a learning environment that they do not understand and cannot participate in the community because of the language barrier! With this tool, students will be given their voice and be able to communicate from their first day!
