My Students

Although most of my ELL students are from Central America and the Caribbean, some were born in the United States. The majority of parents don't speak English so the students only receive English instruction at school.

For the most part, the students struggle with daily oral language because they don't get a chance to practice the English language at home.

My students attend school in South Florida. There aren't many after-school academic programs and parents are always asking for ways to help the students at home.

My Project

My students are English Language Learners who need extra support in reading. In today’s age, computer literacy is an integral part of any student’s learning plan. By providing students with Chromebooks, they gain unprecedented access to resources and information. My students use Chromebooks to help increase their reading proficiency on i-Ready, a program that our school uses to help all students achieve success on grade level. Chromebooks are used primarily during reading centers while I’m teaching a small group of students. Chromebooks keep students engaged, help close the achievement gap and also prepare them for their future career. My students need iPads because most of the educational programs that I want them to use are compatible with iPads. Throughout the day, my students can work independently to get the extra reading practice they need while I work with small groups. They can reinforce reading concepts taught by playing fun games. And they can also use the iPads to read and listen to educational books online. The case cover with help protect the i-Pad from wear and tear. With iPads, my students will have the technology they need to get ahead!
