Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are composed primarily of unaccompanied minors from Guatemala. They range from 16-year-olds to 21-year-olds that have risked their lives to cross the border and live with relatives who are practically strangers. They may be living with biological parents, but again, they have not seen their parents in at least ten years in most cases.
I believe I have learned just as much from my students as they have learned from me.
The range of life experiences in my classroom is tremendous on any given day. What surprises me the most about my students is their resilience. Many have overcome extreme obstacles in their lives, and they still show up ready to learn and are happy to come to school each day. Their positivity is what keeps us going as teachers sometimes.
My Project
This toner will go a long way for our classes! Eleven teachers in our department use this printer, so funding this project will also help all of their students. We have the largest ESOL program in the entire county with nearly 400 students.
For my class, we will use this toner for our printer to print out student work for editing practice.
It really helps students to have a printed out copy in front of them so they can highlight and annotate on the actual paper since they are hands-on learners. We will also use this toner to print out pictures needed for word walls and posters.
