This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are refugees from all around the world. They have come from difficult situations but are excited to be here in school and are ready to learn! They are hardworking and ready to do their best!
My classes range from 3rd-5th grade, and from newcomers to more intermediate students.
These groups are very diverse, as I have students from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Central America. We represent the nations of the world!
Their stories are fascinating and I have loved getting to know each of them. They are a delight to teach and I am hopeful in being able to provide them with some great resources in order to learn English.
My Project
The magnetic boards with letters will help newcomer students learn the alphabet and each letter's sound.
The language kits will also help newcomer students in many ways.
They will be able to have a listening station where they can hear new vocabulary words. They will also have a vocabulary station where they can understand the meaning of new words. The reading and writing stations will help them further develop these skills.
My students are often quite a bit behind their peers due to their lack of language, but these materials will help them catch up quickly!
