I teach ESL students in an urban school district. Our school is now closed for the remainder of the school year, and next year is a big question mark at this point. We have been told to prepare for continued distance learning into next year. My students and I left our classroom not knowing it would be the last time we would all be together.
When we left on March 12th, we were told school would not be closing, and then we were closed for 1 day, 2 weeks, 1 month and now all year.
The abrupt closure meant we did not have the opportunity to prepare as teachers. I took what I needed for that night, not knowing what was about to happen. I have no classroom materials at my house. My students are now working through a variety of methods (Zoom/Google Meet, remote learning lesson plans, Google Classroom and more). Help me get the materials I need to optimize our time in video conferences and remote learning.
My Project
Unfortunately, remote learning is our new normal! My students need their teacher to have instructional materials to teach from home. Help me set up a classroom in my living room that will facilitate language development for ESL students. I need a white board with markers, regular markers and paper, vowel teaching tubs, sequencing cards and more! Every material will help me to design meaningful language lessons. My students are struggling right now, as English is not their first language, and this is all new to them on top of that. They need engaging and thoughtfully planned lessons now more than ever! Thank you, and stay safe!
