Help me give my students interactive reviews and hands on learning experiences while unlocking information to solve puzzles and "win" the game of ESCAPING the ROOM.
My belief is that every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; they just realize their gifts at different times. We are a rural community where the nearest urban area is over an hour away. These students need as much exposure to new experiences that can inspire a bit of motivation or innovation.
I strive to create a classroom that facilitates independence for my adventurous, enthusiastic, fun-loving, inquisitive, eager learners and my classroom is a second home to my students.
They work cooperatively to support each other. We truly become a family during our time together throughout the school year.
My Project
My teaching partner is addicted to Escape Rooms and introduced me to them. We started writing those experiences into our reviews and curriculum. We have found that students were not applying the important information needed to truly learn the information.
Escape rooms use puzzles, locks, boxes, and applying clues to unlock the next puzzle in order to escape or "win".
We have incorporated these ideas into both reading and math reviews. The students are completely engaged AND must use the skills taught to find the keys to unlock the puzzles. Students are wanting more of these experiences. Adding more hands on interactions with locks can only enhance the students experience and fun.
