Students at my Middle School sparkle with potential and are eager to learn. 77% of students are minorities and 88% are low-income students who receive free and reduced lunch. Because our school has so few students, our library budget is very limited.
We need more opportunities to build critical thinking skills.
At my school, there is breakfast provided for all students and staff. After students eat, they come to the library to read, study, play games and visit. Students also visit the library in various content areas. We'd like to increase opportunities for high-interest, interactive, critical thinking games in the library for all content areas.
My Project
This content-based, escape room game can provide students with the opportunity to learn and apply cooperative and critical thinking skills. The Breakout games are designed around content that students learn in each subject area. Students apply their content knowledge, inference making, and other critical thinking skills in order to solve puzzles, open combination locks and boxes and escape the library! This high-interest game will effectively capture the attention of all learners and engage them in essential skills they can apply in the classroom as well as in real-life circumstances. The games will be used in math, science, language arts, social studies, health, English language development reading as well as in the after school program.
