This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an energetic bunch that have such a strong desire to learn. They are coming from a developing area where school boundaries have frequently changed. For many of my students, this is their 2nd or 3rd school they have attended.

The students are anxious to be involved in their community and are learning at every moment in the day.

They understand that they are the future and are eager to do their part in the world. I am so proud of all their hard work and willingness to be good citizens!

My Project

COVID-19 has impacted all of our lives in ways that we couldn't have imagined or planned for just a few years ago. I love building classroom community by doing class novels. Not only to work on reading skills, but to have something in common that we can have class discussions about.

I love hearing the discussions my students have about the novel we are reading in class as they are at recess or in the lunch room.

For a little part of each day, we can escape reality and just enjoy reading a good book as a class. The discussions we are able to have are so meaningful and they are able to bring their life experiences to the table. My students would love the opportunity to have access to more class novels that we can use throughout the year.
