Ms. E. from Durham NC is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need smaller forms of technology for their small hands. With iPods, students will have access online libraries and the ability to listen to audio books and produce multimedia projects.

At our Title I, low income school we have adopted some wonderful programs for reading and math. We try hard to expose as many children as possible each day with the technology we have. Many of my students come from low income families. Our school has a thriving backpack buddy program, holiday assistance program, and clothes closet to help make ends meet. When surveyed, we found few students had technology they could use at home. That meant the only place they were able to access the wonderful online tools was at school.
My students are thirsty for new libraries of books in a desert of want.
The internet has opened up huge libraries of leveled books, wonderful resources to enrich vocabulary, and math and science tools in abundance. It is a challenge to get it into so many needed hands so often.
Many of my students have limited access to technology in their homes. When they are at school, they are excited to use these educational tools to enhance their understanding of subjects. Our school has several educational programs available to students, but many students can only use them on campus. We have some technology in our classroom, but it is limited, which means fewer students gain access to it each day.
Help put more technology into these small hands.
My students will use these iPods to access ebooks, audiobooks, and enhanced fiction and nonfiction books. Students will have many libraries in many languages at their finger tips. These iPods will also be used for students to photograph and record different projects. Open up new libraries and new experiences. Help them learn new vocabulary and new languages. Help us make this huge world a little bit smaller.
